And This Comes As a Surprise Why?
For the first time in almost five years, the United States Army fell short of its monthly recruiting goal. While they had hoped to sign up 7,050 active duty recruits, they were only able to bring in 5,114 new soldiers, or 76% of their stated goal. It's uncertain why the Army is surprised that they can't convince people to sign up when there's an active (and pointless) war going on. Source

Pointless?
1. 50 million Afghanis and Iraqis liberated, given self government for the first time ever (in Afghanistan) and in some 30 years (in Iraq).
2. In Lebanon, people are rising up demanding that its Pro-Syrian government and Syrian troops get out of dodge. Perhaps it has to do with the liberation of Afghanistan and Iraq, GWB's inaugural speech, and the presence of 150,000 troops next door to Syria. The pro-Syrian government got the message in about 30 seconds. It took Syria a few seconds longer and they're trying to negotiate some sort of compromise but Bush is having none of it.
3. Saudi Arabia is, for the first time since the house of Saud took over, having a series of democratic local elections.
4. Egypt is instituting democratic reforms.
5. The Palestinians have elected someone who just may not be a terrorist-lover.
I know it is fashionable among your sort to pretend that all of this is going on within some sort of vacuum that GWB' (damn him) and our war on terror have nothing at all to do with but, well, that donkey don't fly.
Maybe their having trouble recruiting because
1. people like you are still spouting foolishness that the war is pointless and
2. people in California are hanging our troops in effigy from their fucking garage.

Wow, nice rant.
While it's true that some good has come out of the war in Iraq, I personally believe that it was started for all of the wrong reasons. Bush and his consorts are not interested in bringing democracy to the world so much as they are in lining their own pockets and promoting their own agendas. Bush is a proven liar and will go down in history as one of the worst presidents of all time.
As for the people in California, I side with them. The soldier was not hung in effigy, as you claim. It was a political statement that Bush is sending soldiers to their doom for no good reason. I support our troops 100%. I support Bush 0%.
But we're all entitled to our opinion, and that's what makes this country so great. It would be nice if the rest of the world were the same way, but I don't think its our job to force it on anyone.
