Man Starves Woman to Death, Gets Off Scot Free
Terri Schiavo, the brain-damaged Florida woman who had her feeding tube removed 13 days ago, has died. The tube was removed after a lengthy court battle in which Schiavo's husband, Michael Schiavo, insisted that his wife said she would not want to live if in a vegetative state. Since it took 13 days for Terry to eventually die of dehyrdation and starvation, it would appear that her will to live was actually quite strong. Source

her will to live was actually quite strong - somewhat absurd conclusion since she no longer had a will. Her body continued to "live" because there was very little demand for water and nutrition.
If you saw her CT scan you would have seen a huge part of her brain gone - not just non-functional, but gone. CT does not image function, it images structure, and it doesn't take a specialist to conclude the obvious.
Did any of you ever consider it really was her wish as her husband carried it out? No, it's easier to push your own agenda even if it means trashing her husband - a dis-service to her, the man she loved. Even wonder why he just didn't totally leave her over a decade ago? Sorry - but some are just exploiting her for your own purposes.

Basically, the decision of whether Terry would live or die was based on the word of her husband, since there was no living will. The fact is, he should have divorced her years ago. If he loved her so much, then why did he meet someone else and have a few kids? The fact is that the money he received for her care was running out, so it was time for her to die.
Do you consider her family in all of this? Why are they to be completely excluded from the decision to keep her alive? Believe me, if it was your daughter in that position you would certainly think differently.

Apparently, she got her wish - she was anorexic to the point of having a brain-damaging heart attack which landed her in the feeding tube situation for the last 10 years. And the media goes crazy over the feeding tube vs no feeding tube - instead of on the true terrible damages of eating disorders. Bleargh.
By the way, this blog is one of my main sources for news - just enough so I know what is going on and can take a look at whatever's interesting to me. Keep it up!

While I think it's rather sad that this is one of your main sources for current events, I really appreciate your comments. ;-) I've been thinking about giving up the blog, but we'll have to see what happens there. Comments like yours help a lot.
The fact is, I really don't care too much about Terry Schiavo--I don't know her or her family, and I'm not one to rally around any cause. But my feeling on this is that Michael Schiavo's actions were primarily selfish and he refused to consider the other people involved. I think this has more to do with him wanting to be widowed rather divorced than anything else.

Goodness. It still astounds me that people get upset over another person's view on the Shiavo case. As for facts, for either side one can come up with all the facts to support whatever opinion. And Rob, I really do hope you keep this blog going. Yes it's headline stuff, but you have a way of putting a twist on things that brings much needed humor to a lot of your readers. :) groovebunny
So where's the headline about the Pope? Since, apparently, this country can only have one major news story at a time...
Apparently she wasn't very close to her parents (the objectors) at all.
Also, thats how long it usually takes for someone in her condition to die when they are taken off support. It is no will to live that kept her going so long.
When the bible was written, severly handicapped people would die at birth or soon after. It is our own medical progress that gave Terry her "life". Laws and doctrines made then cannot be fully implemented in a modern society. If it we're left entirely up to God she would have died long ago.. in fact so would have most of us, from TB, small pox or even flu. When the Bible was written the men who wrote it had no concept of any of these modern maladies. It is stupid to even bother with them.

I'll be back soon. I've been working to revamp the site and create a newsletter version of the blog so people can get it via e-mail. Should be up in a few weeks, so hang in there!

Having had the opportunity to actually read a good number of the decisions by the various courts involved in this case, I strongly believe the courts made the right decision. I've heard a lot of my fellow Christian say a lot of untrue nonsesnse about this entire case.
Terry Schiao was a vegetable. The original judge applied a "clear and convincing" evidence standard and made his decision based on the evidence. It's a shame that the public can be so easily swayed by small snippets edited from hours of video. She was a shell. The lights were on, but nobody was home.
